Conneaut Lake Park

As you may have observed in local media, in an effort to avoid the pending tax sale of Conneaut Lake Park scheduled for September 26, 2014, for more than a month we have been attempting to reach an agreement with the Trustees of the Park to transfer operational control of the Park to the Economic Progress Alliance. Because of our extensive experience in re-purposing blighted properties in the community, we felt compelled to offer the resources of our organization as a last resort alternative to the imminent dissolution of Conneaut Lake Park.en attempting to reach an agreement with the Trustees of the Park to transfer operational control of the Park to the Economic Progress Alliance.

Our desire to engage in this matter stems from an appreciation of the uniqueness of the property and its dedication to the public. We feel strongly that with a commitment to reorganize, re-vision and revitalize Conneaut Lake Park that the Park can have a very beneficial impact on the economy of the region, and most importantly on the quality of life of area residents.

In 2007 the Economic Progress Alliance, at the urging of the PA Department of Community and Economic Development, undertook an analysis to define the physical, financial and operational conditions at the Park. While our efforts resulted in a number of recommendations to significantly change the model of operations utilized for years, unfortunately financial conditions at the Park have continued to deteriorate resulting in both the scheduled tax sale and in legal action by the PA Attorney General against the current Trustees of Conneaut Lake Park.

After considerable effort to put forth a plan for the reorganization and revitalization of the Park, we are hopeful that we can soon reach an understanding with the Trustees which would facilitate our effective involvement going forward.  While the park has experienced severely diminished economic impact in the community in recent years, in our view, the real potential loss should be measured by the unique opportunity lost for our community.  As has been the case with the Avtex, Bessemer, 84 Lumber and Tel-O-Post facilities, we feel strongly that a concerted effort by the Economic Progress Alliance over a reasonable period of time will result in creating a revitalized quality of life asset for the area with significant future economic impact.
